1. I buy myself a specimen of Jackoweevles and put it in a Petri dish at 4 o'clock. Every creature divides into two creatures each minute, and 47 minutes later I notice the Petri dish is half full. I glance at the clock when the Petri dish is full- what time is it?
2. Hermione wants to take the ship to Japan to visit a Kappa- a ladder is hanging on the side of the ship. The bottom rung is touching the water. In the ship manual that she managed to dig up, she reads that the length of the ladder is 2m40 and that the distance between the rungs is 30cm. The tide rises 27.3cm each hour. How many hours must Hermione wait to cast a charm that requires the water to reach the 7nth rung of the ladder?
3. A group of 98 aurors suffered the following injuries in a battle: 85 lost an eye due to a Bat-Bogey Hex, 75 broke their back, 70 lost one Finger (à la Peter Pettigrew), and 80 lost an arm because of blast-ended skrewts.
What is the minimum number of aurors who must have lost all 4?
4. How far can a Kneazle go into the woods?
5. I've got seven Remembralls in a basket and meet seven forgetful children. I want to give each child a Rememberall but still have a Rememberall in the basket- how do I divide the Rememberalls among the children?

Dear Headmaster,
In your infinite wisdom, and that is more fact than exaggeration, how does one stave off the foul beast called Procrastination? I often find myself alphabetizing my record collection or arranging my closet by style and then color instead of doing my Potions homework (but really, who wants to do Snape's homework anyway?). This leads to long hours and all-nighters. I am more horrid than a banshee if I don't get my 8 hours of sleep, Headmaster. Help!
- Goal Deficient Gryffindor

Dear Goal Deficient Gryffindor,

Ah, procrastination. The most frustratingly common of all diseases, and one which seems to be particularly common amongst Gryffindors. I know it well. I spent many a night awake during my school years choosing to focus on anything save the mundane tasks that had been set before me. The truth is that there's no one definitive cure-all to move past the effects of procrastination. As vile an idea as this may sound, perhaps your best option would be to attempt to manage your time. I'm not asking you to make a schedule, but perhaps to be a bit more mindful of your deadlines.

Think of it this way. The earlier you get your work done, the more time there will be to have fun without the stress of your unfinished work hanging over your shoulders like a particularly ugly grey cloud.

Now if you'll excuse me, I must beg for forgiveness from Professor McGonagall ahead of time, as I fear I have just given my old house a new way to cause even more trouble.

Write to Dumbles
You can write to your headmaster here; Dumbledore will try to respond to all letters, but there may be some delay before he gets to yours. All letters dealt with in strictest confidence.

Alas, it is a rainy day here in Colorado, and I could not put off my homework to frolic outdoors. However, it is a perfect opportunity for me to catch up on the work that has been posted over the last two weeks - and share my favorites with you.

But before I get to the art, I'd like to congratulate trivalent of Slytherin, miss_un_known of Hufflepuff, and zestyzorra for placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in Challenge 3 over in sortedchallenge. Oh yeah, and congratulations to me as well, for taking the special category spot. I'm honored to be included even once with our very talented icon makers. And to the winners of Challenge 4: misanagi of Ravenclaw in first, pickle_breath of Hufflepuff in second, and pierhias of Ravenclaw in third. And nicely done, too, niicole_m and laurahonest.

Over in Sugarquill, one of our most productive artists, drakie_cakie of Slytherin, has been playing around with the canon descriptions of characters from different generations. Scorpius Malfoy, boy girl? features the youngest Malfoy as "the girliest man [the artist] could muster", and I must say, he's quite beautiful. It kinda makes me want Rapunzel!Scorpius fic - ONE OF YOU SCORPIUS SHIPPERS SHOULD WRITE IT.

Somewhat related, Drakie's piece Pansy Parkinson shows the Queen Bee of Slytherin House moping over the adjectives used to describe her in the books. Her beauty is emphasized here along with her sadness - some alluring pink lingerie shows off her... er... tracts of land other features.

Meanwhile, beeinmybonnet of Ravenclaw drew a wonderful mock photograph of curly-haired Sirius, Bonnie (I love that name for his bike) and what looks like a camera-shy Remus hiding behind his boyfriend on the back of the bike. The recipient of this piece was a very happy birthday girl, I'm sure.

Last but certainly not least, there is a truly beautiful batch of icons from OotP made by my_new_shit, who is... not a member of HiH, but very talented all the same. I am always impressed by well-used textures and brushes, used in large amounts without being overwhelming. Emma Watson fans can also find 10 variations on one of her photoshoots made by zestyzorra.

The music is pumping in our Clubs, and if it makes no sense, blame Voldemort's mole and the Music Club.

Several things are up for voting, including epilogues from a wide variety of books, photos based on house colors, and a revote on the DADA banner.

Gryffindor demonstrated its appreciation for the forgotten heroes of the wizarding world. Who could forget Gowain Robards, or the tragic barrel that took him from a world that so needed his amazing skills? Who doesn't know Emma Dobbs, the first Broadway starlet to teach at Hogwarts? How are these people forgotten? It's an outrage. niicole_m made a charming Charms sig-tag. Gryffindor showed their Disney idealism at Sorter's Anonymous, with an uncanny 500 points even. Lastly, they took a wild ride around the sun with comet and asteroid trivia. Way to go Lions!

Hufflepuff knew the most about the Slug Club and its popular founder. Nice work!

Ravenclaw's omfgerbear designed the best tarot card. In his design, and this is probably no surprise except to the Dark Lord, Voldemort is become Death. Hopefully more Ravenclaws can join him in this article next month.

Slytherin went on the most Young Death Eater raids, and knew the most about potions, proving that some Slytherin stereotypes are true. On the other hand, supremacy_born made a new banner for the DA. trivalent sheds some light on this strange paradox by highlighting the deadest Death Eater to ever defect-- Regulus Black. Good job Slytherins, getting so much done.

hh_clubs also welcomed two new club leaders this fortnight! zestyzorra (G) is taking over S.P.E.W. (roster here). caketime took over Care of Magical Creatures (roster here).

In other business, Clubs Mods made an important announcement, and Sorter's Anonymous changed its bonus point structure.

Until next time, cozy up to that CURRENT TAG. She is your bestest date to Clubs.

The things we do for love, or for a really good snog. A certain Ravenclaw with strawberry blonde hair was found shunting Firewhisky at the request of a well oiled Gryffindor. The obscene shunt was rudely attached to a certain appendage of the statue of Mikhail the Magnanimous in the Professor's Lounge. A pat on the back to whoever it was, though, because when one Severus Snape tried to remove said shunt, he was sprayed with it.

Which is just fine because the slimeball needed a shower.

Got gossip? Tell us here!

June has started out great at hih_insomniacs. The most interesting news is the announcement of May's Insomniac of the Month! Congrats to corky_dork of Gryffindor - Kelley rocked the month of May and earned Gryffindor 50 points! Also, the last bit of May business is a shout out to supremacy_born of Slytherin. Eve, as I predicted in the last issue, rocked the debate, earning 170 points for Slytherin! But even with all that hard work, Gryffindor came in first on May's second activity. Slytherin was second, Ravenclaw third and Hufflepuff was last. June's first activity, in da club, goes until until June 15th at 11pm CDT so you have a day to get your entry in! Hope to see a great turnout from all houses.

The scavenger hunts are still going strong. June's first Scavenger Hunt found the Eagles in first, the Lions second, Badgers third and Snakes last. The second hunt ends about when this issue is released, so if you missed it, be on the lookout for the third. As always, Scavenger Hunts earn 10 points for your house so if you are up late, check them out.

Also, don't forget to check out the June Birthday Post here to stop by and wish all the June babies a Happy Birthday. If you missed May's last Friday Five, go here and check it out. Be on the lookout for this week's post for another fun and interesting Friday Five.

Until next time, if you're up late, the light is always on at hih_insomniacs.

Hello, furry, feathered and...full-of-scales! (I'm sorry.) How have all of you been doing? Getting along and turning out for those social posts?

At the time of printing, we eagerly await four potential Animagi to join us!

Slytherins continue to dominate the forest! They topped the turnout in the latest scavenger hunt, while supremacy_born edged out nicevenn and zestyzorra of Gryffindor in the photography activity. (Wh...where are my claws? I FEEL ALL ALONE.)

Want some knuts and points and a fancy animal form? You'll have to apply for registration first: purchase Miranda Goshawk's The Standard Book of Spells, vol. 1-5 from Flourish & Blotts, then fill in the application. It's quite easy and fun, really, and voting on your application gives everyone in the community a chance to earn even more points (and knuts)!

And be sure to find a particularly active Animagus in the community, for the Wilderness awards five bonus points for the monthly activities to any referee *nudgenudgewinkwink*! You don't want those bonus points going to waste, do you?"

Dragon Pox bad! Go here to educate others in the prevention of the pox upon you, and earn some points in the process. silveredaccents wants to remind you from our last activity, mutations of wizarding diseases into the muggle population, that the wizarding Small Pox vaccine will not protect you against Dragon Pox. Gryffindor won the mutations activity, beating Slytherin by 10 glorious participation points.

We are still hiring Ward Leaders! Go here to learn more about this position, and to apply.

Currently, St. Mungos has three wards:
Common Magical Diseases - hiddengrace, Attending
Creature-Induced Injuries - slyfoxesq (roster forthcoming), Attending
Magical Psychiatric Ward - silveredaccents, Attending

Finally, if you do not yet feel ready to take on a ward, go here to sign up to be a healer or healer-in-training. You'll earn extra points for St. Mungo's activities, and the privilege to move up the ranks to full Healer and to Ward Leader!

For purposes of uplift of Mother Hogwarts and Father Gryffindor, the community of Lions vwelcomes you to yet another bi-veekly edition of Gryffindor Gossip.

The most recent State of the Tower Address had the three main requirements for a Gryffindor post, also seen throughout this post:
- unrelated gif
- Recognition for ~*~OUTSTANDING LIONS~*~
- actual business to attend to.

In Gryffindor, shiny finds you. In this case, prefects alight and alohachary1851 (AHOY!) were mesmerized by glitterati and lens flares, respectively. Taking away their hairbrushes may have been the only way to get the well coiffed Lions' attention. However they DID have time to recognize the tireless efforts of loupcelte, zestyzorra, corky_dork and the interminable rhye. Without them, fourth place would not be a distant dream, but a fond reality... ?

The Lions, with flags of red waving brightly in the sunshine, embrace new Gryffindors nicccc, sakuraberries, gryffinwhore, and pearldrop. Unless they are of Vulcan descent, they bleed Gryffindor colors... well, scarlet really. Gold blood would probably be very heavy and inconvenient for hemoglobin.

As mentioned previous, Gryffindor compatriot loupcelte was one of the tireless minions hard workers of the tower, making known the glories (and faults) of the Noble House of Dor. In the inexcusable event that you, Gryffindors, have missed the fruits of her labor, please to be seeing this post. Non Gryffs, you may just have to sit in mystified wonder as the shroud of mystery looms again.

Signing off, sans cohesive/nautical theme (this time), with one message:

We're third in points. This only warrants one reaction, my dear vikings;

We're just too busy having iconversations and SPARKLZ and fun, I know. VIKINGS KNOW HOW TO PARTY ;D
HOWEVER. Let's up the participation, shall we?

</hypocrite>. We want the shinies, which at this point includes the cup. Want shinies, work for shinies, receive shinies. Also, it's summer break for a lot of us, NO EXCUSES ;_;

OKAY. No moar lectures, I'll leave that to our torture masters loving prefects, to guilt you with gif images.

Welcome new members kindofinfinite, qadesh, steer2justice, silvergreen98, hereticalvision, butterfly_no42, and fairytaleaddict!

CONGRATULATIONS (WHY ARE THERE SO MANY CAPS IN THIS ARTICLE?) to omfgerbear for first place the Tarot Card Divination Club challenge. Also to misanagi and pierhias for first and third over at Sorted Challenge. GOOD STUFF, CLAWS.

The SUPER SEKRIT IN HOUSE CONTEST will be posted soon(-ish..), in the Common Room. I know you're all excited, and ARE GOING TO PARTICIPATE! ;D

Claw Chat has been kind of lonely lately. Let us congregate and scheme/plot. Or, I mean... creatively research..
We can has new chat schedule?
Come join us at 3:00 PM CDT and Saturdays at 7:00 PM CDT.

The Common Room has been unnervingly quiet as of late. *Suspicious shifty eyes*
This of course means there will be a glittery explosion of participation in the near future, y/y?

Of course, this isn't our TOP SEKRIT plan, so you heard nothing.

Burn this message.
