In studying for the upcoming OWLs, I not only have forgotten valentine's day but also my girlfriend's birthday. She has since sent me to the hospital wing twice. How do I stop this from happening again? And if you say remembrall... well, HOW am going to remember it once I'VE FORGOTTEN?

- Flustered Ravenclaw is Flustered

Flustered Ravenclaw,

What I'm about to tell you may strike you as odd as coming from a professor (let alone the Headmaster). I know that as a general rule, we come across as a relatively stern sort. As we have dedicated our lives to the pursuit and spread of scholarly knowledge, you might assume that this is all we care about and that we expect our students to follow suit. The truth is that you have to realize that sometimes there are more important things in life than getting that one extra point on your OWLs. I could recommend hundreds of potions and charms to clear your mind, allowing you to draw upon individual details at will, but I won't.

Here's my advice. Learn to take a little time off away from the books and you'll be pleasantly surprised by the things that you don't manage to miss out on.

If you were put on a desert island with nothing but your wits about you, and this means no magic, how would you survive?

- Gryffindors who are NOT planning something similar to do in the woods over Easter hols

Gryffindors Who May Or May Not Be Named James and Sirius (really, you two, I do know your handwriting by now),

If I were on a desert island with nothing but my wits about me, I suppose that I would try to build a camp on the beach where it would be most safe. That actually sounds like a splendid vacation, provided I remembered to tuck a book or two inside my robes. Perhaps some sheets of parchment and a quill to work through some Arithmancy equations that have been troubling me as of late. There's no use being stranded on a desert island with nothing to do, as the scenery will only be charmingly beautiful for the first forty-two days or so, and then I imagine it will be dreadfully dull.

Of course it would be necessary to befriend whatever exotic creatures happen to already be living there. One doesn't want to be eaten alive by a boar in the middle of the night.

Please try not to be eaten by boars in the middle of the night, boys.

If you have a question you can write to Professor Dumbledore here. He will try to answer all letters, though it may be some time before yours is published.

Hola, HiH members! Itching for something good to read? Well, look no further.

We’ve got good fic galore!

First off, (and she had to know I was going to feature it) rhye’s We Will Rock You: Hogwarts Express, Marauders Edition is a musical of epic proportions. I was forbidden to take any lulz from it, but despite this fact, I thought you all might enjoy it (and possibly steal some lulz). Let’s just say that Queen will never be quite the same again after this script-style fic is through.

Enough of the off-the-wall; let’s get down to some traditional fic. painfullybored’s creation, Give Me Your Hand is a traditional as you can get, if you follow Black family traditions of course. That’s right - it is a piece about the Black family, and their more than interesting dynamic. This piece is cute, but at the same time, there is a darker undercurrent. It foreshadows the end of innocence.

And if you are looking for a quickie, Sugarquill can provide. andromeda0604’s Something in the Way You Make Me Feel is short and sweet, literally. With a word count of only 96, this little story has a lot to say, and since it has everyone’s favorite Percy Weasley in it, I’m sure you’ll all be dashing off to read it as we speak. I can see you dashing. No, in all honesty, even if you don’t like Percy, Penelope’s voice should soften the story for you, and make it enjoyable. It really is adorable.

Finally, if you aren’t up to reading anything this month, why don’t you try your hand at writing? Sugarquill has just posted this month’s prompts. You can find them right here, and they all look like a lot of fun.

Now scurry off, dears. You’ve got a lot of reading and writing to do. Don’t forget to drop your favorite author a comment so they know they are loved, and I’ll see you next time. Who knows, maybe you’ll get the spotlight next?

I know you are dying to know what's going down and coming up in the wonderful world of clubbing.

First off, winners! Congrats to Slytherin for knowing what's taking the top spots in the Muggle Cultural Society, Care of Magical Creatures, Shutterbug Society (with member cheesephetamine taking first place), and Death Eater bios! They tied Hufflepuff for the most SPEW haikus. Congrats to Hufflepuff House, who pwned all at the Art Club activity. Overall, I think it's clear to all of us that Slytherin is the force to overcome this term.

et_tu_lj won top commenter in the Restricted Section's Beedle the Bard debate, though Slytherin House took top house again.

Transfiguration Club members performed some tricky magic to transform muggle songs into wizarding hits. First place was a tie between et_tu_lj (R) and crazychic3 (H).

Currently running contests:

A look ahead, courtesy of the activity viewer: The Slug Club will be headed to Slughorn's Office for a St. Patty's Day party on the 17th. The music club will be asking you to create a band, so get behind the piano and start writing songs. Care of Magical Creates is going to venture into illegal territory by asking you to cross-breed to animals. At Shutterbug, the eyes (will) have it! Wizarding wear is going to let the members sell sig-tags for a day (woo!). Sorter's Anonymous is going to be sorting Jane Austen style, so now may be the time to break out those BBC Pride and Prejudice VHS box sets. The DA will also be working on all sorts of crazy survival scenarios. And... some other clubs have some other activities! This column has gotten a bit chunky, so you'll have to look up the rest yourselves.

Finally, HH_Clubs wants to hear from you! What rules do you think should be official on the books?

By planetgirl471

The term began quietly at hh_stmungos, but there will be no more silence in the halls of our local hospital. The term started with a word search, wherein Slytherin House came out top dog. Now, the painting crew has come in and is ready to redecorate the place! Voting is going on for a new community header and icon. Voting ends on the 13th, so maybe you have time to squeeze in a vote before that ends, earning two points for your house. We can't wait to see the new look!

If titles and/or bonus points are your thing, become a Healer-in-Training or Registered Healer. St. Mungo's has some new Healer's-In-Training to welcome: justanerdyangel (G), pasta_and_pepsi (G), cheesephetamine (S), and pretty_liquor (S). In addition, I have applied for the full-time Healer position!

Check out the hospital, and use your magic for the good of all.

Slytherin's takeover - being helped from the inside?

Whispers have started around Hogwarts. Apparently, there are Slytherin sympathizers in all three other houses, people who have been seen regularly chatting with the snakes. Could they be accomplices to Slytherin's rumoured scheme to take over Hogwarts?

Got gossip? Spill it.

Things are still dark and scary fun at hih_insomniacs. We finished the second activity of February: The Missing Masterpiece with pasta_and_pepsi of Gryffindor in first place, fikuz and supremacy_born, both of Slytherin finished second and third respectively. There were only seven participants in this activity so lets try and get more Night Owls at March's first activity Late Night lolPotters. Come over to this post and show us your best Lolpotter but be sure and it pertains to late night activity and you post during your Insomniac hours of midnight and eight.

Also the end of February saw our Insomniac of the Month crowned. accountingwitch of Ravenclaw joined two of last months top performers corky_dork of Gryffindor and et_tu_lj of Ravenclaw as the Insomiacs who participate in all monthly activities. When everything was added up and counted et_tu_lj was named February Insomniac. Congrats Kimberly!

Standings in the scavenger hunts continue to be close. Februarys 4th and Marchs 1st found Ravenclaw in first place for both, Slytherin tied with Gryffindor for second place in the 4th and tied with Gryffindor for second place in the 1st. Which brought last place to Hufflepuff in the 4th and Gryffindor in the 1st. What do all thse confusing numbers mean? It means Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff need to get some participation in March's Second Scavenger Hunt Here before Sunday, March 15th at 10pm CST!

The only other post to check out is the March Birthday post head over and wish all those Insomniacs a Happy Birthday. Don't forget if you are up late at night and want someone to talk to make a post and make some friends. Anyone can post as long as its during your Insomniac hours.

Finally a big shout out to the Ambassadors for the second half of the term. lucky397 of Gryffindor, butterfly239200 of Hufflepuff, msninacat of Ravenclaw and malfoymercy of Slytherin. Be on the lookout in your common rooms for posts from your Insomniac Ambassadors.

The last Hogsmeade weekend, held on the weekend 20th-22nd of Feb seemed like heaps of fun. This reporter was unable to attend the festivities due to a weekend away for a wedding, but there was a lot of activities to participate in. Most of the hh_club leaders submitted activities, as wellas the hih_animagus mods and the House Unity mod. Congratulations to slyfoxesq of Slytherin and et_tu_lj of Ravenclaw, who both earned bonus points for participating in all activities. And a thank you to the Social Directors who volunteered their time for Social Posts; plantetgal471 of Gryffindor, crucioed of Hufflepuff, lunar47 of Ravenclaw and equalupstairs of Slytherin.

The next weekend will be held on either April 17-19 or April 24-26. The poll can be found HERE. Be sure to vote so that you can be available to take part in all the fun activities.

The game between Ravenclaw vs Slytherin was played on the 8th March.

The game started with Slytherin winning the quaffle but they lost possession on the first question. The Claws didn't squander the change and scored the first goal of the game. Slytherin lost possession a second time, but this time the Claws didn't capitalise and lost possession again. This time the Slytherin Chasers were timed out and the Eagles took the Quaffle again, only to lose it again with a non-specific answer. The Claws finally scored a second goal. Slytherin seeker returned with the snitch and the game was won by the Snakes. The final score was Ravenclaw 197 to Slytherins 254. Congratulations Slytherin!

Our coach jethros_mom is retiring the position at the end of the term, so a new coach will be needed. I'm sure we all thank her for all the hard work she's put in and hope that the next person to step into the role will be just as hardworking.

Behold the stampede of new Animagi:
bubba_rum who can turn into a Costa Rican Cougar, classical_wolf whose alter ego is a Somali (cat), pretty_liquor who can play as a Saarlooswolfhond (try saying that five times quickly), lusimeles who can fly away as a Magpie and lunar47 who can prowl around as an American Black Bear!

The Animagi choices for the first batch of March will be announced soon, so Animagi-to-be check hih_animagus for your choices and don't be shy to ask for guidance. As for the awesome people who voted on the first March batch why not offer help to these ickle newbiekins?

For the people who forgot to vote on the first March batch:

Voting on Animagi batches gives 10 points (and one knut) per vote, so it's a good way to rack in points for your house! On top of that, registered Animagi get a 10 point bonus plus a super special*~ invitation to hih_wilderness. Doesn't that sound exciting?!

As for hih_wilderness: there's a Macro Contest up and running! New Animagi, why not introduce yourself in this post? New and old can spread the lulz until the 13th of March.

The Packmates Program is still running. It's a way to earn bonus points on activities by pressuring nudging your friends to apply at hih_animagus.

For everyone who wants to frolic around as their own unique Animagi: do not be discouraged, it's easier than it sounds like!
First, join in on hogwartsishome activities and save up 50 knuts. (Becoming an Animagi is easy, but not that easy!) You need the five series of The Standard Book of Spells which you can get at Flourish and Blotts. Then, fill out the application at this post.
Your application will be put up by the mod in hih_animagus and voted on by fellow HiH members. After that, you choose one of four Animagi choices, write an essay about how you and your chosen Animagi connect and bam! You are Registered and can go wreak havoc in hih_wilderness!

Remember guys, you don't need to be a member of hih_animagus/hih_wilderness to be able to vote on batches!
Read the FAQ and ready, set, go!

The March Lion has made its entrance as I report to you from the seedy underbelly of the University of Minnesota. Yes, a blizzard is on the way in true Gryffindor fashion: late, loud and dumping a huge mess for others to clean up later. Ah yes, bless the Gryffindor way. Speaking of the blissful upper midwest, three Lions and a Claw went to a Chinese restaurant... and no it is not the start of a joke. mynamelessname of Ravenclaw braved, yet again, an excursion with three Gryffindors. alohachary1851, beckella and rhye and the fearless (or fearful) Claw partook in a delicious repast of Chinese delight. Drinking too much tea, eating too much food, and spilling too many secrets on our actual reasons for inviting the lone Claw.

One day, Anie. One day you will just find yourself locked within the bowels of Loring Pasta Bar with no way ou-... DAMN, revealed again!

What ho of news from Gryffindor Tower? Ton Tongue Toffees all around to our newest members haruki_emishi, otajima, and iamnosuchthing and a toilet seat for returning Lion cloud8... though I don't think the others were supposed to know they were getting Ton Tongue Toffees. STEALTH FAIL. IT IS WHY WE ARE IN THE TOWER.

For the Gryffindors who participate regularly are not on Midterm Meltdown, the following have shown great and Moste Potente skill in activities: lucky397 and pasta_and_pepsi placed in the Transfigured Songs challenge. alohachary1851, corky_dork and lost_in_dreamz_ fought the stereotype that for 10 knuts a day, you too can help a Gryffindor learn to read at the Beedle the Bard book discussion. Over at Sorted Challenge, Gryffindor reigned supreme again with alight and pasta_and_pepsi placing, and a whole slew of Gryffindors participating. Apparently that is where the party is, hurrah!

Gryffindors must be writing during class instead of paying attention because alohachary1851, nicevenn, interrobanging, and rhye have made their inkblots over at Sugarquill and with the new and unusual prompts, there may be more to come from the House of Godric.

Anyway, Gryffindors are meandering their way back into participation. Fear this. For now, however, enjoy the silence as we contemplate THE END TIMES. WHY YOU ASK?

The talons are coming out. Our claws have been point pillaging thanks to the guilt tripping encouragement of our Prefects. What, did you think we would let the House Cup out of our grip without a fight? No, we like our shinies far too much.

Speaking of Prefects, the tower has been blessed with the presence of a new co-Prefect, to aid Gerry in his torture... I mean, administrative duties. We welcome accountingwitch as our new Viking leader. She has already begun to dominate Claw Chat (which has a nifty new widget for easy access. HINT). These prefects are sick with power. SICK, I tell you.
The tower is a little slow in terms of new claws. We do, however, have three new members and a returning claw. Welcome singer_midnight, khokhmah, and jt_dominguez, our new Vikings, and myself, bellajedi, the awesome veteran returning claw.

Our February in-house contest, which was about books (of course) went over extremely well. We racked up a ton of points. Here’s hoping we can have similar results with March’s in-house contest. Let’s go claws, no more procrastination! CONSTANT VIGILANCE.

Clubs, ahoy! This is the place we are lacking, claws, but of course that’s all part of our TOP SECRET plan... right? The new Insomniac Ambassador is msninacat, so I’m sure she will whip the claws into participation. We lost to Hufflepuff to our recent match over at hh_quidditch. Good try 'claws, good try. At sortedchallenge, our claws came in a very close second, beaten only slightly by the Lions. Excellent work, however!

Well Vikings, that’s all for this issue, please do give moar suggestions for the next issue. Rah Rah Ravenclaw!

Welcome to the Dungeons! We've got fun and games!
We have some new snakes to welcome to the Slytherin Jungle so please extend a warm hand to dani_haozbourne. We're glad you've arrived and please help yourself to the Firewhiskey.

The Slytherins have been really raking in the points lately and your prefects could not be more proud of you all. Not only are we grabbing up recognition left and right, but we are DOMINATING club activities like the Muggle Cultural Society's "Spot the Squibb" activity and the Care of Magical Creatures "Spot the Difference" activity! See if you can "Spot the Slytherins as they slither up rankings!"

Right now in the Common Room, we are voting for the Slytherin Soundtrack and the CD Case Cover. Head on down and sing us a song about your favorite tunes and graphics. You know you want to... for points, right? I know I do!

Congrats to the awesome Slytherin Quidditch Team for clinching a W for the Snakes. It was pretty grueling and the Ravenclaws played like pros, but they were no match for the stunning skills of the cunning Slytherin Players. cheesephetamine was brilliant while pretty_liquor and slytherati answered the questions with ease. And as slyfoxesq slid her fingers over the snitch, aka "computer mouse", the snakes cheered in victory! Well done everyone!

There is a new Slytherin shop where you can pick up some awesome sigtags and graphics! Head on over to Poisoned Love for some smexy signatures and let malfoymercy entice you with dreams of Nortons and Winchesters.

Calling all Snakes!

"Money talks. Lots of money sings a sweeter song."
