Would you like to see your banner here? Then come over to this post to find out how! ![]() "Dear Dumbledore, Is there any way we could please get some WiFi in the castle? It would be awfully nice to be able to check on things back home without having to send owls to all my unsuspecting friends. And it would be great to be able to check my dashboard and messages. What if my queue gets empty before winter break?! Sincerely, Marooned Muggleborn" Dear Marooned Muggleborn, Unfortunately there are just some things that we are unable to provide here in Hogwarts, and an atmosphere that allows the use of both Muggle technology with magic is just one of those limitations. You might want to consider putting up a hiatus notice so that your unsuspecting friends are aware that you'll be away at boarding school. However — please do not send owls to Muggles unless they are immediate family. Yours, Albus "Dear Dumbledore, Is there any way you can allow for Pumpkin Spice Lattes to be served in the Great Hall? Or convince Madam Rosmerta to start selling them at the Three Broomsticks? Butterbeer is great and all, but I really miss PSLs! Yours, Starbucks Addict" Dear Starbucks Addict, You'll be happy to know that Starbucks is finally opening up a branch in Hogsmeade. Dear old Howard Schulz was an alumni, you know (Slytherin — if the logo did not already clue you in on that) — he's been very keen on the whole thing from the very start but faced resistance from the Hogsmeade Town Council for a very long time. Yours, Albus "Dear Dumbledore, In Muggle Studies, we have been learning about a variety of Muggle objects. Today we were introduced to a rubber duck! Do you know what this strange object is for? Are there rubber owls and rubber cats that muggles play with, too? Curious-er and curious-er" Dear Curious-er and curious-er, You'll find Muggles have rather a very strong imagination and that some objects may not always have a designated use, but that does not mean they are not to be enjoyed. The ducks, as I understand it, are meant to float in the water during a bath. I am certain rubber owls and rubber cats exist as well, though ducks are likely more prevalent. Yours, Albus "Dear Headmaster, I've asked a question to Professor Burbage but she said she didn't know the answer, so I thought I would ask you. I hope you don't mind. I don't mean any disrespect to Professor Burbage, I think she is a great teacher — actually, I was surprised she couldn't answer my question, and to tell you the whole truth, I suspect she didn't want to, because she blushed and quickly changed the subject, and I thought she was a specialist about Muggles, right? It was just something my cousin, who has a Muggle mother, mentioned... Or maybe my cousin just made fun of me and Professor Burbage didn't want to tell me. Anyway, here's the question: Is it true Muggles have rabbits that vibrate? Because that sounds a bit odd to me. Why would they? Did my cousin just mean they purr? Maybe she just lacks vocabulary. I'm confused. A curious Muggle studies pupil." Dear Curious, Yes, Professor Burbage is a specialist about Muggles. I am sorry about the confusion. Yours, Albus Write to Dumbles You can write to your headmaster here; Dumbledore will try to respond to all letters, but there may be some delay before he gets to yours. All letters dealt with in strictest confidence. |

Before I begin, I just wanted to say how capital E excited I am to be the writer for this column! I love anything that touches on personalities, etc., so hopefully we can have fun together! That said, I’m going to be starting Did you know that all that stuff people generally say about star signs is really just the light side? It’s like each of us are both Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker at the same time! It works something like this: Each of our signs is associated with one of four elements (water, earth, air, fire Each sign also has a ruling planet, which we’ll delve into another time, and a level to which they adapt to change, and whether or not they’re ‘masculine’ or ‘feminine’, which is really no more than a binary sort of positive/negative indicators. That cardinality has a real impact too! Cardinal signs like Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn can be pretty bossy according to the darkside, whereas fixed signs like Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius So what does this mean in brief for you? And what else are we going to talk about in this column? Well, I’m glad you asked! Over the term, we’ll talk about the darkside of these signs when it comes to love, relationships, work, ambition, habits, etc. The whole spectrum of human behavior. But for now, I leave you with a brief Darkside summary of each sign (in the 12 sign system I was born under) and hope that you find it as amusing as I do! Aries: According to the Darkside, “you’re a loud, overconfident, aggressive thug with way too many Y chromosomes and a will of titanium-clad granite.” Taurus: “A stubborn,” self-indulgent, “rut-bound bully, fueled by dull resentment and an insatiable love of money.” Gemini: You’re an “unreliable, roguish sociopath with a light finger and the attention span of a hyperactive mayfly!” Cancer: Wow, you are definitely a “grumpy, secretive, passive-aggressive grudge-hoarder, with... mood swings and a positive genius for pointless worrying.” Leo: Vain and arrogant, you’re a “condescending solipsist with imperial longings and an all-pervasive addiction to unconditional sycophancy” Virgo: “A peevish, hypercritical anal-retentive with an obsession for sterile perfectionism and a pedantic fetish for detail” Libra: “A vain, shallow, petulant spendthrift with an unerring eye for style over substance and a lifelong dedication to the quest for an easy meal ticket” Scorpio: “An obsessive, possessive manipulator with an unquenchable lust for power.” Sagittarius: “A reckless, tactless, obnoxious oaf with a morbid fear of restraint and an addiction to losing your shirt” Capricorn: “A cold, cruel, petty-minded slave driver with an unsuspected yet unquenchable ambition and addiction to tightfisted penny-pinching.” Aquarius: “A chilly, detached, eccentric loner with perverse voyeuristic habits and a shard of ice in your heart” Pisces: “A slippery, manipulative, unreliable reality-dodger with delusions of adequacy and an addiction to sentimentality and self-destruction” Everyone sounds like such dolls! XDD Okay, okay, so I don’t actually think we’re all this extreme. XD But, I find it fun to look at what could be and count my blessings that I’m more sane than some of my Aquarian brethren teehee! ![]() Attack of the Nudist Swimmer? Rumors have been wide and varied, but general consensus appears to be that Hogwarts has recently taken on a student-- or is it students?-- that like to take a dip in the Lake late at night. Clothing optional. Three's Company It looks like there's a romance blooming in the trio and not the one you'd expect. The hickey on Harry's neck is the proof, but the question is, was it Ron or Hermione that put it there? Snow in the Dungeon Some sixth-year Ravenclaws decided to get into the Christmas spirit VERY early, as they enchanted the dungeons to produce snow. As if those of us with double Potions on a Monday didn't have enough to deal with. Got gossip? Tell us here! |
