What's your favorite common household spell?
Accio the TV Remote"
Dear Accio the TV Remote,
I'm a very big fan of the spell that washes my dishes.
"Dear Professor Dumbledore,
Is it true that Mrs. Norris is actually a student that is stuck in a cat form? You know, from the days when transfiguring students into animals was still permitted.
A student often in detention"
Dear Student in Detention,
Hogwarts stopped allowing that practice in the middle ages. Unless Mrs. Norris is also old, I wouldn't say that was a possibility.
PS: You will not be turned into an animal, don't worry.
I've lost my owl! Who do I contact to help me find him?
Dear Forgetful Freddie,
Perhaps this is a question more suited for Hagrid, but for what it's worth, I'm confident that owls will return in due time. They're highly clever and independent animals; rest assured he'll return when you need him.
Write to Dumbles
You can write to your headmaster here; Dumbledore will try to respond to all letters, but there may be some delay before he gets to yours. All letters dealt with in strictest confidence.

Hello, hello! We here at the Prophet hope that you've all been well since our last issue.
Before we move on to anything else, we want to remind everyone that voting for the trial run of Artist's Block is up until Tuesday at 11:59pm UTC! Go here to look at some lovely art and cast your vote. We'll also be taking feedback about Artist's Block at this post, so also head over to leave comments about Artist's Block.
The special Sugarquill event for this term has also been announced! The most popular event on the poll was the Reverse Mini Bang. Artist signups are under way, and close 24 February (i.e., today
Now that we've talked about all the things that have been going on — let's get to the fic!
Rob/anbyrobanby brings us Nostalgia, in which Aberforth Dumbledore narrates an old romance (and no, it's not the goat).
Jalen/jalenstrix has something on the darker side for us; Quirinus Quirrell falls in Descent.
Claire/nfgs combines Disney and Harry Potter in The Most Magical Place on Earth, a Muggle Cultural Society-inspired fic in which Ginny and the Trio get taken to Disney World.
Crystal/bluemermaid gives us some adorable Weasley interactions. Watch Bill meet his doom at the hands of a hieroglyphed-into-life mummy in Tales from the Tomb.
Until next time, readers — enjoy the incoming lions of March, and may your ink be black!

Let's get right to it and see what's been brewing at sortedchallenge. Hufflepuff represented in Challenge 4 with 115 points. Tiffany/growling of Slytherin took 1st place, however. Sam/samantha of Hufflepuff placed 2nd, while Steph/alwaysawkward of Gryffindor placed 3rd. Kristine/flipflop_diva and Brina/brinchen86, both of Hufflepuff, shared the award for "best crop".
Challenge 5 was all about bigger graphics. Wallpapers were the name of the game. Hufflepuff's Kristine/flipflop_diva placed 1st with a Neville and Luna wallpaper, while Emily/xonceinadream of Gryffindor placed 2nd and Rachel/moony_blues of Slytherin placed 3rd. Brina/brinchen86 of Hufflepuff received the award for "best interpretation of the prompt".
Stop by here to see all of the winners.
By the time this edition comes out, Challenge 7 will still be running. The deadline is March 1 at 1am UTC
We've had a few new graphics posted at hogwartsicons, so here is a little peek. Gryffindor's Steph/alwaysawkward shared a great mix of icons and banners. I rather like her banners with that touch of pink.
Come on over to see the graphics and leave Steph some comments.
Are you looking for some house pride banners? Maybe Kristine/flipflop_diva of Hufflepuff has the answer. She shared a series of 4 house pride banners.
Stop by to see the rest of the banners.
Let's see what's been happening art wise at hh_sugarquill. Lovers of yarn, rejoice, because I bring you some lovely socks. Allison/pinksonia shared her works, which (as she says) will "make Dobby (and presumably Dumbledore) happy".
Stop by to leave Allison a comment or two.
Hufflepuff's Brina/brinchen86 showed some house pride with a drawing featuring a cute badger.
See Brina's post to leave some comments.
I'm off for this edition of the Daily Prophet but keep on sharing your wonderful pieces of art and you might find yourself in the spotlight next time!
Hello club go-ers! Let's see what's new at hh_clubs!
First of all, the clubs mods are looking for a leader for Ancient Runes. They've already extended the deadline once, so if no one applies, they will put the club on hiatus for the rest of the term. So if you like Runes, consider applying here by today, February 24, at 11:59pm UTC.
Now let's take a look at some of the current activities going on.
Here's an easy, and possibly existential, activity. For Shutterbug Society's Meta-Selfies, take a picture of something that defines you. Do it today, though, as it ends at 11pm UTC! If you don't have time, you might want to check out the submissions and see what you learn about some of your fellow HiH members :)
Over at platform_934, we're redoing the voting cheat sheets, and Sorters Anon is helping out with that! Submit your new designs here by February 26, 11:59pm UTC. Voting will decide whose design is used!
Everyone loves giving and receiving gifts, right? Come participate in Charms Club's Rampaging Cupids Part 2 and leave some love for your fellow HiHers. Gifts can be a variety options and are due by February 27, 1pm UTC.
Restricted Section currently has a fun stamping activity called Character Archetype Stamping. Are you the hero, villain, wise mentor, or best friend? Submit an app to find out by 11:59pm UTC on February 27!
How inspired are you by plants? Probably more than you would think! Submit a fanmix to Herbology Club's Fanmix activity. The deadline is February 28, 9pm UTC, but you should go ahead and request a plant name from Jess now.
For all you logic puzzle lovers out there, and I know there are many of you, DADA is helping to feed your addiction with the activity Nonverbal Spells. Solve the puzzle by February 28, 11pm UTC.
Transfiguration Club has a cool activity called In Another World Part 1 going on right now. It involves submitting prompts for HP characters along with a place and genre, and members fulfilling the prompts with a summary of a book or movie that uses them. Check it out before February 28, 11:59pm UTC, and when you're done there, head over to Part 2.
Over in Muggle Cultural Society, there's an Oscar Pool Party going down. Make your bets on who will take home the awards on March 2, and if you're right, you could win placement points. Submit your ballot by March 1, 23:59pm UTC.
Remember, to see all current activities at any time, check the current tag or the latest weekly roundup.
Let's take a peak at some of the latest results as well!
Over in Astronomy Club, new mnemonic devices for remembering the planet names and order were created. The two winners were Jalen/jalenstrix and Clara/nevarren, both of Ravenclaw, with the following two entries:
"My Venerable Eggshells May Just Save Us Now."
The next time I go to the horse races
Art Club just finished up an activity called Potter Patterns where members submitted kaleidoscope images relating to HP and others had to guess what they were. I really liked how Dumbledore's beard came out in Christa/c_hrista of Ravenclaw's entry:
For more detailed results for all these activities and more, check the results tag. With lots of activities ending this week, I'm sure it'll get a work out ;)
Beware of the Plant!
The word on the street is that a certain someone, maybe a certain Gryffindor has been growing his own giant plant. A plant big enough to take on the Whomping Willow. I wonder where you'd keep such a plant.
HONEYDUKES' LATEST INNOVATION TO BE UNVEILED SOON
Rumour had been spreading for a while now that Honeydukes is working on a cutting-edge project, but this exciting news hadn't been confirmed until a few days ago. An insider says to Honeydukes will most probably unveil its avant-garde confection in the few months to come. He went so far as to say it would be "the most innovative product Honeydukes has created in several decades".
Is a certain gamekeeper up to his old tricks? Rumor has it an elephant is missing from a Muggle zoo and may, in fact, be hiding in a very non-Muggle location. In addition, students have reported some very mysterious noises coming from a little hut on the Hogwarts grounds ..."
Socks keep disappearing, either a wily house elf, or a cold-footed Headmaster, is behind this.
Got gossip? Tell us here!
Earlier this term, Bry/starfaerie82 covered the Celtic astrology, so I thought it might be cool to cover Chinese astrology for this one. Chinese New Year was celebrated on the 31st of January this year, so while zodiac signs are based on the year you were born, not the month you were born in, when looking up your sign, you should also remember to take into consideration when the Chinese New Year began in your birth year.
The Chinese zodiac is perhaps most known in its iteration as the twelve animals who figured in the Zodiac Story about the Jade Emperor who decided to devise a way to measure time, but did you know that there is actually a sixty-year cycle for the Chinese zodiac calendar? This is because the five elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water) in their Yin and Yang forms is a ten-year cycle that interacts with the twelve-year cycle for the zodiac animals. This means that someone born the year of the Yang Wood Rat would have to wait sixty years before the next person not in their cohort would be born with the same year. For a table of the previous and current sixty-year calendar, click here.

There were some great updates in February, but none more so than Secret Hideaway's Catalog Update #66. Nikki/nikkikitty posted a 120-tag update! Hello, everyone, and welcome to this edition's Animagus column!
The February batch of Animagus hopefuls has been posted — there are two applications this month and you have until February 26, 11pm UTC to vote for them, so if you haven't gone over yet, read the apps and cast your votes! Don't forget that you get 5 extra points for voting if you already have an Animagus form.
If you don't have an Animagus form yet, then what are you waiting for? Head on over here to submit an application! You only need to own the Standard Book of Spells volumes 1-5, and you can purchase them at Diagon Alley for 10 knuts apiece. Don't have knuts yet? You can earn them by participating in a couple of activities hosted around the community, hih_animagus included!
And what do you know, there's still time to do just that with the February Monthly Activity, which ends on February 27, 11:59pm UTC. Simply choose three television characters and what their Animagus forms might be in at least 150 words. Easy-peasy!
Finally, if you haven't signed up yet for a pack, you have until the end of the term to do so! Signing up for a pack isn't necessary to join in on the ability to earn badges, which the Animagus mods are giving a new spin on for this term, but it does get you cool new badges! Check out this social post for a look at the badges unlocked so far, as well as join in on the discussion about why you love your Animagus form (and why you love the forms of others)!
That's all we've got for this issue. Bry/starfaerie will be back next issue for your regularly scheduled Animagus programming.
Hello, all my favorite people. I have some exciting news and developments from the world of hogsmeadewkends to update you all on today.
First, let's start with the final piece of info from January's Hogsmeade
If you think that is exciting, then just wait 'til you read this. Last week, in her first official public co-mayor duty, Alex/gryffinwhore posted the dates AND the theme of the next Hogsmeade Weekend. Yup, that’s right. Mark your calendars! We are going to go
from April 4 to 6
The mayors promise "fun from various time zones, countries, and cultures!" and assure us they will provide more details on what exactly that all means as we get closer to the big weekend.
In addition to the news of when and what, the mayors also unveiled a couple other changes — namely tags (there are now tags for !mayor posts and #weekend posts) and participation bonus (woot! Now you only need to stamp 8 apps to count it as an activity!).
But the biggest and best change came not from the mayors but your lovely Flourish mods Nikki/nikkikitty and Morgan/wizbey. Starting with April's Hogsmeade, there are new rules for Flourish Hogsmeade!
The highlights of these changes are:
• Shops & stalls are no longer. Now there are just 10 "Hogsmeade Shopkeeper" spots per house.
• All Hogsmeade shopkeepers will be allowed to make both regular and gift tags
• The ordering limit per shop will be 10 tags total, regular or gift tag, whatever you wish to order.
• All tags will be worth 4 points.
• Sign-ups will be open for all non-Flourish shopkeepers for 24 hours before opening for everyone. Sign-ups are, as always, first come, first serve.
• Everyone will have until the last Sunday of the month to deliver for points. Though if you want to count Flourish toward your Hogsmeade bonus, then you do need to deliver within seven days.
If anyone has any questions about these new and exciting rules, just ask the lovely Flourish mods. And keep a look out sometime in March for the signup post.
But don't despair! You don't have to sit around and just stare at your calendar, slowly ticking off the days, for the next month. There is something you can do!
Enter the banner contest! You have until March 23 to enter, so that means you can make a new version every day until you get one that is just perfect. Or not. Up to you!
But until next time, happy banner making and Hogsmeade waiting, HiH'ers! <333
